January 2011 – Training Preparations & Fundraising Update

Happy January to you!  We are here in Kansas City, buckling down for our second very cold streak of <10 degrees this week!  Hope you are keeping warm where you are.

We write with a brief update on our missions plans.  We are continuing to prepare for this time in numerous ways.  We completed the Nazarene church’s missions orientation several months ago, and were blessed by fellowship with many other folks getting ready to serve God internationally.  We were also funded and required to attend a course at ECHO, a 50 acre farm, which raises crops specific to each of the various world regions’ climates.  They send seeds to missionaries needing to find ways to feed congregations and teach people how to wisely use the land that God has given.  Our speaker was a veteran medical missionary to Congo who taught us how to present health messages in culturally appropriate manners, such as storytelling.  It was a most insightful week!

Finally, we are working on a 22 lesson online class on Whole Person Care, to further train us how to work with a team to care for people’s spiritual, emotional, social and physical needs as health care practitioners.  Easy, right?  All of this in the midst of continued fundraising efforts.

Our timeline is simply to leave the country once our support is raised.  We hope we will reach near full support (~$15,000 to go!) by late Feb, with preferably monthly sponsorships to meet this goal.

We look forward to spending time with friends and family before leaving the country somewhere between April and June.  We look forward to two family weddings in the next several months before we leave!  Pray for us as we consider this time frame, to give us contentment if the plans need to change; to fully trust in God’s provision.

We thank you so much for your ongoing prayers and support!  We look forward to your continuing updates as well!

Joy and Peace to you
